Languages
At Riverside we aim to provide an MFL curriculum which delivers on the National Curriculum core principles and which underpins students’ enjoyment of language-learning and exposure to “cultural capital;” all of which will stand them in good stead for the future and equip them for using their language skills for personal interest and study and in the world of work.
We will teach the students how to learn, using both modern technology and traditional thinking skills. We hope to inspire them to explore the wider world beyond that with which they are familiar and to be outstanding linguists who inspire their community.
The MFL curriculum is progressive by design and sequences learning so that students are constantly building on their prior knowledge, grammar and skills. Students will be fully immersed in a culture where languages are celebrated through extra-curricular clubs, trips and days such as the European day of languages.
End points for lessons build into end point competences for each module, enabling students to be progressively more confident and over time able to succeed in external examinations and in enthusiastically speaking the target languages.
