Concerned about someone else's child?
The law is very clear about who is responsible for the safety of children and that is all of us.
If you have a concern about a child, you have a responsibility to that child to tell someone.
- You can call MASH - Thurrock Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub. MASH is the coordinating body for the main local services which are there to help children; the Police, the NHS and social services. The number for MASH is 01375 652802. The operator will be able to help whatever your call is about and however vague or detailed. Your job is not to investigate, judge the severity or worry about the consequences. MASH will do that and they will tell you what to do next, if anything, or take over. Visit the MASH website by searching 'Thurrock MASH.'
- If you believe a child to be in immnent danger, you can call the Police on 101 or 999.
- Alternatively, if you know the school or nursery the child attends you can call that school and report your concern. The designated safegurading lead at the school may know more about the child and is likely to be more qualified or experienced to know what to do; they may call MASH or decide on a different course of action.
- If your concern is about online child sexual exploitation you can call CEOP. Search for CEOP online.
