Polite and Kind
"Today, every single student who got off the bus said 'thank you' to the bus driver."
Politeness and kindness are central to the culture at our academy. Here are just two examples;
Politeness
As part of our daily protocols, members of the senior leadership team greet students off the bus, off the train, in the street, at the road crossing and at the academy gates; by the time students reach the playground in the morning between two and four members of the senior leadership team (depending on their route!) - including the Principal - will have said 'good morning' to them. At first, they may not reply, but increasingly they do. Politeness is a habit - and it is catching.
Kindness
Every Wednesday is 'Waffle Wednesday.' Students are nominated by members of staff for a random act of kindness; each nominated student receives a free waffle. We give out approximately 20 waffles per week on average - that's about 700 random acts of kindness noticed by members of staff in corridors, class rooms, stairwells and communal areas each year!
